Objective  To understand the prevalence of healthcare-associated infections in medical institutions in Sichuan Province, and to provide data support for formulating prevention and control strategies. Methods  A combination of bedside investigation and medical record review was adopted to investigate the prevalence of healthcare-associated infections across Sichuan Province on specific survey days from June 18 to November 30, 2025. Results  A total of 276 626 inpatients from 750 medical institutions across the province participated in the survey in 2025. A total of 2 969 cases and 3 175 episodes of healthcare-associated infections were identified, with a healthcare-associated infection prevalence rate of 1.07% and an episode prevalence rate of 1.15%.The prevalence rates of medical institutions of different bed sizes ranged from 0.46% to 1.70%; the healthcare-associated infection prevalence rates of medical institutions in various cities and prefectures ranged from 0.52% to 1.58%; the top five departments with the highest infection prevalence rates were general intensive care unit (7.76%), neurosurgery department (5.07%), hematology department (4.01%), stomatology department (3.30%) and thoracic surgery department (2.55%); the prevalence rate of surgical site infections in Class Ⅰ incisions ranged from 0.59% to 1.26%; the main infection site was the lower respiratory tract (51.37%), followed by the urinary tract (14.11%), upper respiratory tract (5.51%), skin and soft tissues (5.29%) and bloodstream infections (5.13%); the top five pathogens detected in terms of quantity were Escherichia coli (16.92%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (15.76%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (15.62%), Acinetobacter baumannii (9.89%) and Staphylococcus aureus (9.48%); the usage rate of antibiotics in the province on the survey day was 28.27%, and the inspection rate of antibiotic treatment was 60.51%. Conclusions  The prevalence rate of healthcare-associated infections in medical institutions in Sichuan Province has been continuously decreasing. And this survey has provided important baseline data on healthcare-associated infections for medical institutions at all levels in Sichuan Province, and has positive significance for promoting the continuous quality improvement of infection control work.
