Objective To evaluate the effect of PNS on Idiopathic facial palsy. Methods A total of 86 cases of acute idiopathic facial paralysis were randomly divided into the treatment group (PNS group, 44 cases), and the control group (42 cases). The basis of the two groups included hormone therapy, B vitamins, anti-viral treatment, as well as acupuncture and physical therapy, both in the incidence of 7 days to give the treatment. House-Brackmann facial nerve function classification and evaluation were used to determine clinical efficacy; ENoG line was tested before and after treatment. Results Before H-B classification of facial nerve function, EnoG side of the latency and amplitude in the two groups were comparable. At 28 days after treatment, H-B scores for the treatment group and the control group were (2.33 ± 1.21) and (3.08 ± 1.35), respectively, and the two groups had significant differences (Plt;0.05); ENoG incubation period (2.46 ± 0.34) and amplitude (189 ± 67) of the treatment group were more than those of the control group; the incubation period (3.37 ± 0.49) and amplitude (131 ± 52) improved, and there were significant differences between the two groups (Plt;0.05). Comparison of efficacy of the two groups showed the total effective rate: 95.45% in the treatment group, 80.95% in the control group, and the efficacy of the treatment group was better than that of the control group (Plt;0.05). Conclusion Sanqi tongshu, B vitamins, anti-virus, such as the acupuncture and physical therapy for the treatment of acute idiopathic facial paralysis have significant effect.
One eye each in 3 groups of 12 pigmented rabbits after bilateral vitrectomy received 0.5mg, 1mg or 2mg triamcinolone acetonide (TA), respectively. The fellow eye received only balance saline solution as control. Ophthalmoscopy and electroretinography were performed during 1 day to 38 days after vitrectomy and drug injection. Light and electronmicroscopic studies were done on the 28th day. The particles of drug were visible on day 28 in all TA-treated eyes. Administration of 0. 5rug and 1mg TA did not result in different changes in ERG b-wave amplitudes compared with those in control eyes(P＞0. 05). There were significant elevations of ERG b-wave in 2mg TA eyes compared to the control eyes(Plt;0.05), Both ligbt and electronmicroscopy of the retina in these groups were almost normal. The results showed no Toxielties in TA treated eye up to 2mg after vitrectomy. This offers the experimental evidence as a baseline for combining TA with vitrectomy to reduce recurrence of proliferative vitreoretinopathy. （Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1996,12: 105- 107）
Objective To observe the protective effects of Na2SeO3 on the damage of retinal neuron induced by microwave. Methods Cultured fluids of retinal neuron were divided into 4 groups,including 1 group of control, according to the concentration of Na2SeO3 in cultured fluid and then exposed to 30 mW/cm2 microwave for 1 hour.The targets of lipid peroxidation and the concentration of selenium in cells were measured.Apoptosis detection was taken by TUNEL detection kit. Results The activity of SOD and GSH-Px rised,meanwhile the content of MDA and the amount of apoptosis cells decreased in 1times;107 mol/L group compared with the group without Na2SeO3.The other groups was superior in antioxdant capacity to 1times;107 mol/L group. Conclusion Na2SeO3 might be possessed of the effect of protecting the damage of retinal neuron induced by microwave. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,2000,16:97-99)
Objective To explore the serious situation of injection abuse, and its influence to average prescription fee. Methods The subjects of this study were health service settings in rural area of 9 provinces/cities in Midwest of China. The treatment prescription indicators of county and village health service settings were calculated. Results Prescription injection rates of health care facility in rural area of Midwest provinces/cities of China (25.8% to 62.2%,mean: 45.1%) were higher than the standard of WHO (13.4% to 24.1%), and the injection abuse situation was serious. Injection bause caused the increase of prescription fee. Excess usage of injection in health service settings was related to the economic level of the on-site county or village, and also related to the size and load of health service facilities. Conclusion Suggestions are proposed to the government health agency according to the results of the study: enhancing the lawmaking, establishing the related policy and effective measure, training the medical personnel, promoting the mass health education, investigating the effective injection management model in rural area, and reducing the rate of injection.
Purpose:To determine the efficacy of a low-molecular-weight heparin (fraxipparine) administered in the infusion fluid to prevent postoperative fibrin formation in a rabbit lensectomy and vitrectomy model. Methods:Fourteen adult pigmented rabbits were randomly as signed into two groups.Standard fragmatome lensectomies and core vitrectomies were performed prospectively in a masked fashion on control eyes with balanced salt infusion and on experimental eyes treated with fraxiparine/ml 6U in the infusate.Intraoperative bleeding was graded in a masked fashion by the surgeon. The amounts of firbrin and hemorrhage were graded in a masked fashion on postoperative days 1 through 7. Results:The mean grde of fibrin in the eyes treated with fraxiparine was lower than that in the control eyes (Plt;0.01) on postoperative days 1 through 3 respectively.Also,the average days to clear the fibrin in the eyes treated with fraxiparine was shorter than that in the control eyes (P＝0.001).No statistically significant differences in the degree of intraoperative or postoperative hemorrhage were noted between the two groups. Conclusion:Low-molecular weight heparin(fraxiparine) is an effetive inhibit or of postoperative fibrin formation in a rabbit model and is not associated with is not associated with an increased risk of intraoperative or postopertive bleeding at the tested dose. One hundred and thirty patients with uveitis in north-western zone of our country were analyzed based on anatomical classification and their causes. It was found that anterior uveitis was the commonest type in uveitis,accounting for 86.15% of total patients. Intermediate uveitis, pan-uveitis and posterior uveitis accounted repectively for 6.92%, 3.85%and3.08% of the total patients. Rheumatic arthritis was the most frequently accompanied systemic disease in patients with uveitis,showing a possibly causative link between them in their pathogenesis. （Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1994,10:156-158）
Objective To observe and analyze the configuration and distribution of vortex veins by indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) combining with widefield contact lens system. Methods A total of 28 patients (32 eyes), including 16 females (19 eyes) and 12 males (13 eyes) with the age of 28-84 (average 71), were examined by ICGA combing with widefield contact lens. The patients were divided into high myopia group (15 eyes with diopter ge;-6.0 D) and non high myopia group (17 eyes with diopter lt;-6.0 D or normal sight). Results A total of 166 vortex veins were detected, including 118 circinate veins (71.1%), 34 thick-stripe-like veins (20.5%), and 14 irregular vein (8.4%). There are 71 vortex veins in the right eyes with average 5.07 vortex veins in each eye; and 95 veins in the left eyes with average 5.28 vortex veins in each eye. The number of vortex veins at in the inferior temporal, inferior-nasal, over-temporal and over-nasal retina was 47, 42, 39, and 38, respectively, with average 1.34 vortex veins in each quadrant (the inferiortemporal was the most: average 1.53). A total of 160 vortex veins came out from the scleral around the equator area 46 disc diameter (DD) away from the optic disc (964%); the other 6 vortex veins came out at the point 3-4 DD away from the optic disc (3.6%). A total of 123 (74.1%) vortex veins had ampullae with different directions. Horizontal and vertical ampullae were most common. There was no difference in numbers and configuration of vortex veins beween the two groups. Conclusion The vortex veins has circinate, thick-stripe-like, and irregular configurations; the distribution of vortex veins in eyes with high myopia or non high myopia is almost accordant. ICGA combining with the wide-field contact lens examination can observe all of the vortex veins within a single visual field.
Objective To observe the clinical manifestations and treatment of ocular myasthenia gravis. Methods The clinical manifestations, results of laboratory examination and thymic CT, and therapeutic data of 84 patients with ocular myasthenia gravis, hospitalized from July, 1998 to July, 2005, were retrospective ly analyzed. Results These patients were 2.5 to 70 years old. All of the patients had ptosis, includine 35.77% with diplopia 25% with strabismus; 1 with obnormal sphincter muscle and 1 with blurry vision.The positive rate of examination of AchR antibody was 27.6%, and abnormal rate of examination of thymic CT was 64.3%. The cure rate was 48.1% in oral administration with tabellae in whomdostigmini group, 66.7% in methylprednisolonum hormone therapy group, and 51.9%in thymectomy group. Conclusions Ocular myasthenia gravis is mostly involved levator palpebrae superiors and sometimes also involved other ocular muscles. Anticholinesterase medication, methylprednisolonum hormone therapy or thymec tomy are effective. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis, 2006,22:379-381)
Objective To investigate the serum levels of endostatin and vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF) at different therapy stages of mouse Lewis lung carcinoma, and elucidate the relation to the progress and prognosis of tumor. Methods Forty-four Lewis lung carcinoma-bearing C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into 4 groups, ie. a non-therapy group, a chemotherapy group, a gene therapy group, and a combination therapy group ( chemotherapy plus gene therapy) . Eleven healthy mice were included as normal control group. Serum was collected on the 0th, 5th, 19th day after therapy for measurement of endostatin and VEGF by ELISA. The correlations were analysed between endostatin and VEGF levels in each group. Results ( 1) The serum endostatin levels had no significant difference in all groups on the 0th day,but increased significantly on the 5th day in the gene and combination therapy groups than those in other three groups ( all P lt;0. 01) . Then the endostatin level decreased on the 19th day in the gene and combination therapy groups, but still higher than those in the chemotherapy group and the normal group. ( 2 ) On the contrary, serum VEGF levels of the gene and combination therapy groups decreased significantly on the 5th day and increased little on the 19th day, which were both significant lower than those in chemotherapy group on the 5th and 19th day( all P lt; 0. 05) . There were significant diferences between the three therapy groups and the non-therapy group( all P lt;0. 05) . ( 3) Negative correlations between VEGF and endostatin levels were revealed in the gene and combination therapy groups ( r = - 0. 77 and - 0. 761 respectively) .Correlation was not found in the non-therapy and chemotherapy groups. Conclusion The serum levels of endostatin and VEGF might be used as monitoring indices of antiangiogenesis therapy.
ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy and impacts of air tamponadein treating rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRD) including inferior breaks after 25G pars plana vitrectomy (PPV).MethodsA prospective non-randomized study. From November 2016 to December 2018, 110 RRD patients receiving PPV in the Ophthalmology Department of Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University were included in the study. All the patients choose the operation mode voluntarily after fully understand the condition and operation mode. There were 90 eyes in the air filling group and 20 eyes in the silicone oil filling group. There was no difference of age (t=－0.082), sex ratio (χ2=1.538), left or right eye (χ2=0.839), average course of disease (Z=－0.276), intraocular pressure (t=3.669), axial length (t=0.765), grade of proliferative vitreous retinopathy (Z=－2.101), high myopia (χ2=0.013), lens state (χ2=1.275), logMAR BCVA (t=－0.681), the scope of retinal detachment (t=0.970), the site (χ2=0.108) and numbers (t=0.158) of the retinal holes, whether involving macula (χ2=1.791) between the two groups (P＞0.05). At 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery, the first retinal reduction rate, BCVA increase rate, visual recovery rate, intraocular pressure, fovea retinal thickness (CFT), ellipsoid and cross sectional area, and the occurrence of postoperative complications in the two groups were observed and compared. Independent sample t test and Chi-squared test, Mann-Whitney U test, and ANOVA were used for data comparision.ResultsAfter the first operation, retinal reattachmnents were achieved in 87 eyes (96.6%) in the air group and 19 eyes (95.0%) in the silicone oil group (χ2=0.130, P＞0.05). In the air group and the silicone oil group, there were 7 and 2 eyes with subretinal holes, whose retinal reattachmnents were achieved. At 6 months after surgery, logMAR BCVA of the eyes in the air group and the silicone oil group were 0.23±0.23 and 0.37±0.23, respectively. All of them were higher than that before operation (t=－2.410, P＜0.001). BCVA in the air group was superior to that in the silicone oil group (P＜0.05). The increase rate of BCVA of the eyes in the air group and the silicone oil group were 0.69±0.28 and 0.48±0.30 logMAR units, respectively (t=－3.225, P＜0.05). The CFT of the eyes in the air group and the silicone oil group were 226.87±42.30 μm and 234.83±36.10 μm, respectively (t=－0.448, P=0.657). In the air group and silicone oil group, posterior cataract was observed in 15 and 4 eyes, subretinal residual fluid in 1 and 2 eyes, and visual object deformation in 3 eyes respectively. In the air group and silicone oil group, posterior cataract was observed in 15 and 4 eyes, subretinal residual fluid in 1 and 2 eyes, and visual object deformation in 3 eyes respectively.ConclusionsAir filling combined with PPV can effectively treat RRD, which is suitable for both superior and inferior holes. The visual acuity recovered well and the complication is less. The time of retinal detachment (especially the time of macular detachment) is an important factor affecting the prognosis.
