PURPOSE: To explore the pathogenesis of anisometropic and amblyopias. METHODS:To carry out on monocular and binocular atropinized cat models during the developmental period for anisometropia and ametropia ,and measure the cytosomal sectional area and some parameters of the dendric field from the dorsal lateral geniculate nuclei (dLGN)of adult cats by using Golgi-Cox staining. RESULIS:The changes of cytosomal sectional areas and parameters about dendric fields in the dLGN of experimental cats were as following:significant differences between cells of dLGN's A1 lamina by the monocular atropinized eyes and normal ones, binocular atropinized eyea and normal ones;no significant difference between tbat driven by the monoular and binocular atropinized eyes. CONCLUSIONS:There might be resemble pathogenesis between anisomelropic and ametropic amblyopias. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1996,12:153-156)
ObjectiveTo investigate pathological changes of liver and risk factors for hepatic injury after trauma, in order to provide the instructions for clinical liver transplantation and accumulate the pathological data. MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 142 patients who died after trauma between January 2010 and December 2014. Based on whether the patients had acute liver damage before dying, they were divided into two groups. The observation group had liver damage before dying, while the control group had not. Combined with the details of trauma, clinical data and autopsy results, we statistically analyzed the pathological changes of liver and risk factors for acute liver damage, including age, gender, trauma kind, trauma site, interval between trauma and hospitalization, damage degree, length of hypotension, the use of more than two vasopressors, large amount of blood transfusion, and complication of shock, infection, or underlying diseases. According to injury severity score (ISS) system, the damage degree was divided into mild damage (ISS<16), moderate damage (ISS≥16 and<25), and severe damage (ISS≥25). ResultsAmong the 142 patients, there were 45 in the observation group with varying degrees of liver cell necrosis, among whom there were 8 mild cases, 14 moderate and 23 severe. There were 97 patients in the control group without acute liver damage, and no significant changes were found in their hepatic tissue. Liver damage was not correlated with age, gender, damage kind, damage site, or pre-hospital time (P>0.05), while it was corrected with the degree of damage, time of hypotension (≥0.5 hour), the use of more than two vasopressors, large amount of blood transfusion (2 000 mL/24 hours), and combination of shock, infection, and other disease except for cardiac and pulmonary diseases (P<0.05). ConclusionWhen using donor livers from patients dying from trauma for transplantation, physicians should be alert to the factors discussed previously which can increase the risk of hepatic injury. Biopsy is useful to assess the suitability of donor livers prior to transplantation.
ObjectiveTo explore the forensic pathology features of foreign body and its emergency treatment: Heimlich maneuver. MethodsWe carried out a review of relevant literature and autopsy findings of 8 cases of foreign body suffocation at West China Forensic Identification Center of Sichuan University from 2000 to 2012. ResultsThe most common foreign body reported was undigested food. Children, old people and middle-aged men who were drunk were vulnerable to choking. The most effective resuscitative procedure in such cases was Heimlich maneuver, but it had been noted to result in significant intra-abdominal and intra-thoracic injuries if performed incorrectly. ConclusionIt is necessary to take some preventive measures to avoid the foreign body, and the publicity of Heimlich maneuver to reduce the incidence and mortality of foreign body is important.
OBJECTIVE:Observing the clinical and pathological features of Coats disease. METHODS:Reviewing the clinical data and pathologic slides duly confirmed by pathology of 19 cases of Coats disease, which belonging to our college's Laboratory of Ophthalmologic Pathology from 1959 to 1994. RESULTS: 14 males,5 females, aged 1-18 years. More boys were affected than girls in the age group under 10 and that difference between both sexes became gradually less as they grew older. The main pathologic changes were the vascular dilatation and congestion of the outer layer of the retina, the uneven thickness of the vascular walls and the proliferation of the connective tissue. Retinal protuberance was seen in most of the advanced cases.with bleeding and vascular changes on its surfaces. The main pathologic changes were the detachment of retina and the appearance of many foam cells and crystals of cholesterol in the subretnal fluid, and calcification and ossification of the outer layer of the retina were found in some cases. CONCLUSION :Cytological examination of the subretinal fluid might be the liable method in differentiating between the Coats disease and retinoblatstoma. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1996,12: 157-159)
ObjectiveTo analyze and compare the clinical and pathological characteristics of patients with porto-sinusoidal vascular disease (PSVD) and liver cirrhosis (LC), so as to provide a reference for reducing misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. MethodsThe patients who underwent liver biopsy in the Department of Infectious Diseases in the First Hospital of Lanzhou University from January 2008 to December 2022 were retrospectively collected. The clinical, biochemical, imaging, and liver biopsy pathological data of the patients with PSVD and LC were compared. ResultsA total of 45 patients with PSVD and 48 patients with LC were included. The males to females ratio in the patients with PSVD and LC was 25∶20 and 21∶27, respectively, and the average age of the patients with PSVD was younger than that of the patients with LC (P<0.001). The patients with PSVD had overall better liver function, although the proportion of the patients with the Child-Pugh class B in the two groups was all higher, the proportion of patients with the Child-Pugh class B and the end stage liver disease model score ≥10 points in the patients with PSVD was lower (nearly three times) than those in the patients with LC (P<0.05). The initial diagnosis rate of the patients with PSVD was lower than that of the patients with the LC (6.7% vs. 95.8%, χ2=74.0786, P<0.001). The imaging findings of the patients with PSVD as compared with LC showed that the proportion of the portal hypertension was higher (33.3% vs. 39.6%) in both, but the flow velocity of the portal vein was faster (P=0.039), and the extrahepatic bile duct diameter was smaller (P=0.001). The main specific manifestations of liver biopsy histopathology in the patients with PSVD were the portal occlusion [19 (42.2%)], nodular regenerative hyperplasia [1 (2.2%)], and incomplete septal cirrhosis or fibrosis [14 (31.1%)], as well as the non-specific manifestation was the fine bile duct reaction [8 (17.8%)]. And the proportion of the patients with the liver tissue inflammatory activity grading (G) and liver fibrosis staging (S) >G2S2 in the patients with PSVD was lower as compared with the patients with LC [12 (26.7%) vs. 48 (100%), χ2=54.560, P<0.001]. ConclusionThe diagnosis of PSVD and LC should “seek common ground while reserving differences”, and it is necessary that a routine examination in combination with imaging manifestation and liver pathology, and should focus on a liver vascular abnormality so as to reduce a rate of misdiagnosis.
OBJECTIVE :To investigale effect of subretinal fluld(SRF)on proliferalion of the cellular elements of PVR. METHOD:The effect of SRF of 28 patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment proliferation of the cultured human retinal pigment epithelial cells(RPE),retinal glial cells (RG),and fibroblast (FB)was observed and detected by the methods of cell-counting and 3H-TdR in DNA synthesis. RESULTS:The range of proliferatinn-stimulating activity was 52.5%~233.3%, 36.4% ~ 177.8%,55.4% ~277.8% above the baseline in 1:10 dilution of these 3 kinds ,of cellular elements, and there was no significant difference among them. CONCLUSION ;The stimulating effect of SRF on the cellular proliferation was thougt to be due to the actions from certain growth factors. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,1996,12: 233-235)
Purpose To study changes of cell cycle of vascular endothelial cell in non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Methods Alloxan induced Wistar-rats were employed and immunohistochemistry,Western blotting methods were used. Results The vascular endothelial cells of retinas of 8~20 weeks diabetic rats were observe to be cyclinD1,cyclinD3,cyclinB1,p21 and p27 positive stained with light and electronmicroscopies.CyclinE immuno-stained vascular endothelial cells was observed occasionally.Meanwhile, the evidences of morphologic changes of the vascular en dothelial cells were proved:less plasma, thinner cell, more bubble organelles than those of controls. But,the ultra-structures of pericytes and other type of retinal cells did not change and they also immunostain negative.Komas blue and Western blotting methods also proved that the vascular endothelial cells of retina of 20th week diabetic rats expressed cyclinD1,cyclinB1,p21 and p27 protein. Conclusion Glucose induced retinal vascular endothelial cells of 8~20th weeks diabetic rats enter cell cycle and were arrested at G1/S restriction point. This study also suggested that retinal vascular endothelial cells may possess the ability to resist glucose damage and mechanism of selfstability during very early stage of diabetes. ObjectiveTo investigate the radiological and clinicopathological factors affecting the postoperative recurrence of early lung adenocarcinoma with micropapillary/solid structure.MethodsA total of 198 patients undergoing surgical resection for early stage lung adenocarcinoma in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2016 to August 2019 were enrolled, including 100 males and 98 females, aged 28-82 (53.5±9.5) years. All patients were allocated to a recurrence group (n=21) and a non-recurrence group (n=177) according to postoperative recurrence status. Correlations of imaging and clinical features and clinical outcomes were analyzed to determine prognostic significance.ResultsThe mean follow-up time was 27.0±11.2 months. There was no statistical difference in the imaging features of tumor maximum diameter in mediastinal window (P=0.014), C/T ratio (P=0.001), bronchial positive sign (P=0.015), pathological features of vascular invasion (P=0.024) and postoperative chemotherapy (P<0.001) between the two groups. In multivariate analysis, vascular invasion was the only independent prognostic factor (OR=0.146, P=0.047).ConclusionVascular invasion is an independent risk factor for postoperative recurrence of early-stage lung adenocarcinoma with micropapillary/solid structure.
Objective To observe the effects of structure and function of cornea, chamber angle and retina of varying doses of Bevacizumab which was injected intravitreally in rabbits. Methods Twenty-four New Zealand albino rabbits were divided into three groups randomly, the right eyes in three groups received int ravitreal injection Avastin at dose 1.25 mg,2.5 mg and 5 mg respectively as experimental eye, the left eyes accepted intravitreal injection 0.9% normal saline at the same volume as a control eye. The anterior segment of eye and ocular fundus were examined and intraocular pressure was measured by slit-lamp microscope and direct ophthalmoscope before and after injection. It was tested by Electroretino gram (ERG) before and after injection 1, 4, 8 weeks. At the 8th week, it carried out corneal endothelium counting; then enucleated eyes to observe by the light microscope and transmission electron microscope. Results No statistically significant difference regard to IOP,corneal endothelium counting, a-and b-waves of ERG at any stage of study in every group(P>0.05). No obvious change at cornea, chamber angle, retinal structure and retinal ultrastructure in every group under light microscope. Conclusion This study indicated that there is no obvio us toxicity of intravitreal injection with Avastin 1.25~5.0 mg in normal rabbit eyes. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis,2008,24:189-192)
Purpose To evaluate differences in the pattern of optic disc and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) damage in normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) and high-tension glaucoma (HTG) patients. Methods We enrolled 49 eyes of 49 patients:30 NTG (IOP≤21 mm Hg,1 mm Hg=0.133 kPa), 19 HTG(IOP≥25 mm Hg). Mean age was 59.2±12.3 (range, 36-75) for HTG patients, and 59.6±8.6(range, 39-71) for NTG patients. All patients underwent complete ophthalmic examination, achromatic automated perimetry (AAP), scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO), scanning laser polarimetry (SLP), optical coherence tomography (OCT) and Heidelberg retinal tomography (HRT). All patients had glaucomatous optic nerve damage and abnormal AAP. Results There were no differences in mean deviation on AAP between NTG and HTG eyes (P=0.37), while the corrected pattern standard deviation was larger in NTG than in HTG eyes (P=0.014). Cup∶disc area ratios in global (P=0.03) and three sectors (Plt;0.05) except nasal sector were significantly larger in the NTG group, whereas rim area in global (P=0.03) and three sectors (Plt;0.05) except nasal quadrant obtained by SLO were smaller in NTG than in HTG eyes. The other numerical parameters obtained by three imaging technologies could not detect differences in the optic disc or RNFL anatomy between the two groups. Conclusions Cup∶disc area ratio was larger in patients with NTG than in those with HTG, whereas significant thinning of rim was associated with NTG eyes. The measurement of retinal nerve layer thickness in global and each quadrant was similar between two groups. More focal or segmental analysis of the data contained within SLO, SLP and OCT images are needed to detect localized differences in eyes with varying levels of IOP.
