自從1981年首次報道脾臟損傷出血后介入栓塞治療可作為脾切除之外的一種可選擇的治療方法后，脾動脈栓塞術在脾臟損傷中的應用已越來越多。在脾臟創傷出血的治療選擇中，脾動脈栓塞術治療占有重要的地位，可以避免不必要的手術，降低手術本身造成的傷害，同時介入手術成功率高，在治療后可以立即進行血管造影評估止血效果。多發傷并不是脾臟創傷出血患者行介入栓塞術的危險因素，反而脾動脈栓塞術為外科手術風險較高的多發傷合并脾臟損傷患者提供了另一種治療方式。
